Sussex council president: Not the time to visit
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, Sussex County Council President Mike Vincent has joined with other officials urging out-of-state guests to stay home, including those with second homes in Sussex County.
As of 8 a.m. March 30, according to an amendment by Gov. John Carney to the current state of emergency, all out-of-state visitors must immediately self-quarantine for 14 days.
Vincent issued a statement March 30 appealing directly to people planning to visit Sussex County.
“That’s two weeks separated from your home communities, away from family, friends and the comforts and services you’d find in your hometowns,” Vincent said. “Your best option, for the moment, is to simply stay put. Our sandy beaches, quaint seaside resorts, forested trails and everything else Sussex County proudly has to offer will be here waiting for you when this crisis has passed. It will indeed pass, and when it does, Sussex County will welcome you back with open arms.”
Vincent said, “We appreciate your interest and business in Sussex County. It is the lifeblood of our tourism economy. But now is not the time to visit, and this is not the time for a mini-vacation at your beach house.”
Vincent said first-responders, hospitals, healthcare workers and local and state officials need people to stay home. “It's for your own safety and for the health and well-being of our residents and the healthcare system,” he said.
