Critically ill, hospitalizations remain at April levels

Delaware Division of Public Health announced May 20 six additional fatalities related to COVID-19 and updated the number of positive cases and recovered individuals. All data reported through the daily updates are based on data received as of 6 p.m. the previous day. 

There were 25 critical cases reported April 5 and 209 hospitalizations reported on April 16. In total, 310 Delawareans have died due to complications from COVID-19, ranging in age from 21 to 103 years old. Of those who have died, 161 were women and 149 were men. A total of 138 individuals were from New Castle County, 55 from Kent County, 116 from Sussex County, and one individual’s county of residence is unknown.   

The most recent deaths ranged in age from 60 to 90, three women and three men.  Three were New Castle County residents, two were from Kent, and one was from Sussex County. Five had underlying health conditions; three were residents of long-term care facilities.    

The latest Delaware COVID-19 case statistics cumulatively since March 11, provided as of 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, include:  

• 8,194 total positive cases  
• New Castle County cases: 2,933 
• Kent County cases: 1,253 
• Sussex County cases: 3,960 
• Unknown county: 48 
• Females: 4,492; males: 3,675; unknown: 27 
• Age range: 0 to 103  
• Currently hospitalized: 220; critically ill 35; data represents people currently hospitalized in a Delaware hospital regardless of residence, and is not cumulative
• Delawareans recovered: 3,965 
• 37,218 negative cases
