Delaware HBA holds annual Leadership & Legacy Ball
The Home Builders Association of Delaware named Mark Grahne, of Atlantic Homes, Builder of the Year during the Leadership & Legacy Ball Dec. 3. The event also featured comments by Sen. Tom Carper, Sen. Christopher Coons, a special video message by Gov. Jack Markell, and the induction of the 2012 board of directors of the HBA/DE.
Fred Fortunato of Benchmark Builders Inc. was sworn in as president of 2012 board of directors along with incoming 2012 board members by Kevin Kelly, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) third vice chairman. Fortunato’s goals for the coming year are to protect and promote industry objectives through public private partnerships supporting growth and job creation in the housing industry.
Grahne, the association's immediate past president, was awarded HBA/DE’s most prestigious award - Builder of the Year. Presenter and last year’s recipient, Bob Thornton of Silverstock Builders, cited Grahne’s unfailing commitment, demonstrated leadership qualities in promoting the industry, and participation in political events. Grahne has also been recognized locally as a winner of numerous Regal Awards for outstanding home products.
Builder of the Year is awarded annually to the builder-member who has best served the interests of his fellow members, the association and the community. By awarding the Builder of the Year, HBA/DE hopes to inspire local builders to seek leadership roles in organized home building and to continue to work for the good of the state and national organizations.
Jim McCulley of Watershed Eco LLC was named Associate of the Year in recognition of his extensive support over the years to the association and in particular to his service and dedication. He is a member of the Society of Wetlands, the HBA/DE Associate Vice President, and serves on the NAHB Environmental Committee.
Brian Rickards, director of operations for Benchmark Builders, was awarded the President's Distinguished Service Award for excellence, and dedication to his work, community and the Home Builders Association of Delaware.
