Charles A. ‘Chuck’ Stoddart, loved his family

August 18, 2020

Family and friends were saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Charles A. “Chuck” Stoddart, 55, at his home in Lincoln Friday, July 31, 2020.

Chuck was born March 8, 1965, in Delaware. A Cape High class of 1983 grad, Chuck was an ace pitcher for the Vikings and was invited to try out with the Cincinnati Reds, but he injured his pitching arm during tryouts, ending his baseball career.

Chuck graduated from Delaware Technical Community College with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. He worked in sales for many years, first at Carlton’s in Rehoboth, then Graves in Lewes, and later for uniform company ARD, for whom he sold fire police uniforms to companies in the tri-state area. He always joked he could sell the pope a double bed.

About 13 years ago, Chuck began his career as a corrections officer at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.

Off and on through high school, Chuck dated his future wife, Karen Yingling, whom he affectionately called “Ying.” Many years later, their paths crossed again, and they were married July 17, 2004.

Chuck enjoyed being with family and friends, going to the drive-on beach, playing horseshoes and just getting together to eat crabs. He was a die-hard Philadelphia sports fan, rooting especially for the Phillies and Eagles.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Naomi and William A. Stoddart. He is survived by his wife Karen; son Will Stoddart; stepchildren Trey Webster, Morgan Webster, her fiance Greg Lynch, and their child Rhett Lynch; and Adam Webster.

Due to COVID restrictions, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Cape Henlopen School District, 1270 Kings Highway, Lewes DE 19958.
