Three candidates will vie for two open seats in the Dewey Beach municipal election, set for Saturday, Sept. 26.
David Moskowitz, Gary Persinger and Bill Stevens have filed to run in what has become a rematch of the 2018 election, in which Moskowitz and Persinger prevailed.
Stevens, who filed as a resident candidate, said he will help unify residents, property owners and businesses as they navigate through COVID-19’s effects. Stevens said he will work with town officials to maintain public safety and design programs that improve property values.
Stevens chairs the town budget and finance committee, is a member of the audit committee and is a former investment committee member. More information can be found at stevens4dewey.com or on Facebook @Stevens4Dewey.
Moskowitz, who is running as a resident candidate, said his financial expertise will be a much-needed resource with the town facing a multiyear economic pandemic. First elected in 2018, he said the town should pursue more grant opportunities and permanently allow outdoor dining with appropriate restrictions.
Moskowitz serves as commissioner liaison to the investment committee, and volunteers with the Cape Henlopen School District and Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club. More information can be found at deweybeach2020.com.
Persinger, who is running as a nonresident candidate, said the town has multiple issues regarding revenue streams, finances and the hiring of a new town manager. First elected in 2016, he said he can contribute positively to decisions the town faces.
Persinger serves as commissioner liaison to the audit, budget and finance, comprehensive development plan, and charter and code review ad hoc committees. Learn more on Persinger’s Facebook page @DeweyTownCouncilNews.
Peter Briccotto announced his intention to run July 22, and stated several times he would file, but never did. In an Aug. 26 Facebook post, Briccotto stated he decided to step aside and support Persinger and Stevens, and said he would return campaign contributions within the next week. He could not be reached for further comment.
The deadline for candidate filing and voter registration is 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 27. Eligible voters may vote by absentee ballot or in person.
The election will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, in the Dewey Beach Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. For more information, call Town Hall at 302-227-6363.
