The Point opens in full Oct. 1

The full circular trail of The Point in Cape Henlopen State Park opens Thursday, Oct. 1. The ocean side portion of The Point was opened by Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Sept. 1. The bayside beach remained closed for use by shorebirds migrating south for the winter.

Lewes Mitigation Planning Team to meet

The Lewes Mitigation Planning Team will meet virtually at 9 a.m, Wednesday, Sept. 30. The group will discuss a phragmites management plan implementation and receive updates on work by planning commission subcommittees on wetland buffers and setbacks. Lewes council, planning commission to meet

Lewes Mayor and City Council, the planning commission and the mitigation planning team will hold a joint virtual meeting at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, to discuss resiliency planning. They will review work done to date and consider other items for discussion, including planning horizon and projections, land use and regulations, Lewes Board of Public Works infrastructure, crisis response and retreat planning. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net

Lewes parking committee meets Oct. 2

The Lewes Downtown Business District Parking Committee will meet virtually at 8:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2. The group will review a possible lease of the M&T Bank parking lot, including the design concept and cost estimate, and coordination with the bank and Hotel Rodney. Members will also receive an update on the ongoing signage project, discuss ways to increase use of the Schley Avenue parking lot and review the hours of operation for parking meters. Lewes Beach Parking Committee meets Oct. 2 

The Lewes Beach Parking Committee will meet virtually at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2. The group will review the charge of the committee and past recommendations. The committee will discuss the purpose and scope of recent surveys by the Lewes Board of Public Works and the city. Resiliency is Lunch Bunch topic Oct. 2

Delaware Hospice will host Resiliency: Adapting Well to Adversity, a virtual Lunch Bunch with Dr. Judy Pierson from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2. Resiliency is the ability to overcome challenges of all kinds – the loss of a loved one, a traumatic experience or a breakup. It is not the denial of adversity but a way of moving through it that allows a person to regain their footing in life. The current pandemic represents a unique form of adversity, but the need to bounce back isn't new. Rehoboth environment committee to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Environment Committee has scheduled a meeting for 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2. The meeting will be conducted online. The agenda calls for Newark officials to give a presentation on the development of their Climate Action Plan and to provide insight into the possible development of a plan for Rehoboth. Dewey council sets organizational meeting

Dewey Beach commissioners will hold the town council organizational meeting at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3. Newly elected commissioners Gary Persinger and Bill Stevens will be sworn in for their two-year terms. Commissioners will vote to appoint a mayor for a one-year term and a secretary for a one-year term; both will be sworn in. A link to the meeting will be available at www.townofdeweybeach.com.

E-Racing the Blues walk set Oct. 3

The 18th Annual E-racing the Blues for Mental Health virtual walk is set for Saturday, Oct. 3. Due to COVID-19, this year’s participants can walk around their neighborhoods to raise awareness for mental health. While there is no fee to register, donations and team setup are encouraged. Robinsonville Road work starts Oct. 5

Intermittent lane closures on Robinsonville Road for milling, patching, paving and striping will occur 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays from Monday, Oct. 5, to Friday, Nov. 13, pending weather conditions. Work will take place from the Kendale Road to the Plantation Road intersections.
