Alfred ‘Topper’ Matthew Davis, retired police officer

Alfred "Topper" Matthew Davis, 84, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at his home.  He was born March 25, 1936, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, son of the late Alfred Matthew Sr., and Hazel Ruth (Bibbee) Davis.

Mr. Davis graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1955, and upon graduation joined the U.S. Army.   In 1958 he married his love, Lutie Ewers, in Maynard, Ohio.  After his military service, Mr. Davis joined the police department in the city of Alexandria, Va. He worked his way up the ranks and retired in 1981. In the years following his retirement, he worked as a driver for the Jolly Trolley in the summer months, and then became property manager at Cape Shores in Lewes for the next 10 years before his final retirement.

Mr. Davis was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing, crabbing, working outside in the garden, motorcycle riding, and everything coastal living had to offer. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Police #002 and Master Mason Jefferson Lodge #15. Above all, he cherished time spent with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his sister, Lorena Belle Ruminski (Davis). He is survived by his beloved wife Lutie E. (Ewers) Davis; his son Alfred Lee Davis; and his grandson, Alfred Lee Davis ll.

Services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins - Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
