Dewey Beach committee launches beautification campaign

First donation comes from Octolounge Boat Charter Company
July 9, 2021

The Dewey Beach Marketing Committee has launched a campaign to help support and enhance the town’s beauty and help offset the town’s beautification expenses.

Marketing committee member Alex Hannah said donations from residents and visitors will help keep Dewey colorful with planted flowers, holiday decorations and other beautification improvements that will be determined by the success of the fundraising efforts.

“The hope is to create a beautiful place that everyone can enjoy,” Hannah said.

Commissioner Paul Bauer, liaison to the marketing committee, said it’s important for the town to identify beautification opportunities to support Dewey Beach.

“This has been a challenging year for the town on many levels,” Bauer said. “The town greatly appreciates the work of our dedicated employees and the Dewey Beach marketing committee volunteers as we build additional community financial support to raise funds to assist our beautification efforts.”

Businesses and individuals can request a sign be placed in the median on Coastal Highway to advertise their business or display their names for a $500 donation to the campaign, Bauer said. All funds will go toward maintaining the town’s green space, which costs about $32,000 a year, Bauer said.

The first business to jump-start the media sign campaign was Octolounge Boat Charter Company, said marketing committee Chair Drew Martin. The sign will be placed in the median near the Hyatt Place Dewey Beach close to where the boat is docked, Martin said.

Contributions will also be recognized on the Town of Dewey Beach beautification website page at townofdeweybeach.com/BeautificationProjectDonation, Hannah said.

The marketing committee is exploring additional recognition opportunities, which may include designing and installing a large permanent feature on the Baywalk with engraved recognition on the back, Martin said.

“Keeping Dewey Beach beautiful and special is an ongoing focus for the town, and this new initiative is meant to help the effort for years to come,” Martin said. “The money raised will go directly to Dewey Beach beautification improvements. Dewey Beach is a fabulous place to visit, and this ongoing fundraising campaign will help our town continue to create a beautiful and welcoming place for everyone.”
