Wilmington University holds commencement
Wilmington University honored 215 graduates at its Spring Commencement Ceremony held Monday, May 10, at the William A. Carter Partnership Center on Delaware Technical & Community College’s Owens Campus.
Family members and friends cheered as the graduates took to the stage under a tent on the east lawn.
Additional family members were able to watch the ceremonies from the comfort of their own homes thanks to a new technology known as Livestream.com, a website that streams events on the internet.
“Tonight is a very special evening for our graduates, their families and friends, our faculty and the alumni of Wilmington University,” said President Dr. Jack Varsalona. “Tonight you receive a degree, a degree that you have earned as a result of first, your vision, and secondly, as a result of downright hard work. You have families, careers and lives in your communities, and on top of all that, you chose to improve yourself and the lives of your family.”
The university holds five commencement ceremonies a year, two in January and three in the spring. The Georgetown ceremony recognizes graduates from the university’s Dover, Dover Air Force Base and Georgetown locations.
The commencement speaker was Krystine Schiding, who graduated with her doctor of education degree with a 3.85 grade point average.
Schiding, who resides in Dagsboro, has been employed by Worcester County Public Schools in Newark, Md., since 2004 as the special education chairwoman.
