Big Music Festivals in Milton and Wilmington Highlight the First Weekend of August

August 4, 2021

We've got a lot of great things going on as we head into August and the final full month of the 2021 Summer Season. Geez, where did all the time go anyway?

It's definitely going way too fast, but there's no need for sadness just yet. The funeral procession, i.e. Jazz Funeral, for the Summer of 2021 in Bethany Beach is still a few weeks away.

For now though, there's still plenty going on at and near the beaches. And we're going to tell you about some of our favorite happenings for the weekend of August 6-8 right now.

We dive right in, beginning with a big concert event happening at Hudson Fields this Saturday.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Bettie James Fest (August 7)

Hudson Fields near Milton will be hosting a special concert event this Saturday, August 7, from 4 until 11:30 p.m., featuring local country music star Jimmie Allen, as well as DJ Jazzy Jeff, Hero the Band and a few others.

A tribute to Allen's late father, James Allen, and late grandmother, Bettie Snead, the event features great live music throughout the entire day in a festive atmosphere.

Run for PAWS (August 7)

Come out for a nice run while supporting the always great work being done at the Brandywine Valley SPCA during this year's Run for PAWS event in Dewey Beach.

This is the 13th year for this fun event, which kicks off at 7:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 7.

Run for PAWS features a 5K for humans and a one-mile pet friendly walk for our furry friends and their companions.

The event starts on Dagsworthy Street and finishes near the Dewey Beach Lions Club, the location of the festive after party that's free for all participants.

All proceeds from this event go directly to help local animal shelters.

Clifford Brown Jazz Festival (August 4-8)

The largest free jazz festival on the east coast of the United States, this year's Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in downtown Wilmington is expected to once again be an extremely popular summertime event for 2021.

Presented by the City of Wilmington, the 34th annual festival features five days of fabulous live music on the main stage in Rodney Square, as well as vendors, food and plenty of wine and craft beers.

Just a few of the headlining acts for 2021 include Kenny Barron, Dianne Reeves, Gerald Veasley and Eric Benet.

It's also being live streamed online this year, if you can't make it out to the actual event.
