Bridgeville fire company receives $2,500 through America’s Farmers Grow Communities

February 10, 2012

The firefighters of the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company serve their community as the first line of defense in case of emergency. Clay Tatman, a local farmer in Sussex County, recognized the need for new safety equipment for the organization and recently designated $2,500 for Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company through America’s Farmers Grow Communities.

The fire company will utilize the $2,500 to purchase a Res-Q-Jack, a stabilization strut that will help save lives in farming and vehicle-related accidents.

Tatman, who was selected as a Grow Communities winner in Sussex County, chose to award the fire company with the donation because many of his friends and family have volunteered their time and energy to serve in the fire company.

“The fire company provides a lot for our community, and the donation from Grow Communities will go a long way in providing resources for the company,” said Tatman.

In 1,245 eligible counties, farmers could win $2,500 for their favorite community nonprofit. In a ceremony held Jan. 21 at the fire company’s annual appreciation night, Tatman got the chance to present the fire company with the $2,500 donation.

“The fire company relies heavily on financial support from our community. The donation from the Monsanto Fund and Clay’s decision to donate the money to the fire company reassures us that our hard work as volunteer firefighters is helping our community,” said Peter Stephens, fire company treasurer.

The Monsanto Fund expects to invest more than $3.1 million in local rural communities this year alone. In total, more than $7,500 has been donated to nonprofits in Delaware.
