Federal health plan enrollment open through Jan. 15

Navigators to help Delaware uninsured find affordable and comprehensive coverage
November 8, 2021

For Delawareans who have no health insurance through Medicaid or an employer, or who need to change their health plan in the federal marketplace, now is the time to act.

The open enrollment period for signing up for a new plan began Nov. 1 and runs through Saturday, Jan. 15. While selecting a plan may sound difficult, trained staff at Quality Insights are standing by to offer free help through the Navigator program funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Quality Insights’ certified health plan navigators can help consumers review their coverage options, complete eligibility and enrollment forms, and answer health insurance related questions. Most consumers qualify for a monthly tax credit that can be used to lower their monthly payments. Others also qualify for help paying their deductibles and co-payments.

Some of the primary benefits of enrollment include free preventive care, coverage of doctor visits, hospitalizations and prescriptions. Completing an application may also result in the applicant or a family member’s eligibility for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

While these free services are available to anyone in Delaware, Quality Insights is especially seeking to make an impact in vulnerable and underserved populations, including communities with lower access to health coverage and disparities in health outcomes due to lack of coverage.

“As a nonprofit committed to health equity and better healthcare for everyone, we know the difference that access to affordable care makes in the lives of people and the health of communities,” said Sven T. Berg, MD, Quality Insights CEO. “That’s why we are excited to offer Navigator services in Delaware and strongly encourage those in need of assistance to reach out.”
