George Travers, dedicated firefighter
George “Ducky” Travers, 91, of Rehoboth Beach, went home to be with his wife, Barbara, Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022. He was a loving husband and stepfather, preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and her children, Karen, Wendy, and Stephen.
Ducky spent 25 years proudly serving and protecting the City of Wilmington as a career firefighter. He called it the greatest job in the world and spoke highly of his many years with the department. After retiring from the fire department, he drove a school bus until it was time to move down to Rehoboth Beach with the love of his life, Barbara, to start retirement. If you ask him, spending time with Barbara was what truly made him happy.
George was a friend to all and will be missed dearly. He called it like he saw it and could be seen throughout Dewey and Rehoboth Beach enjoying the phenomenal restaurants the area has to offer. He especially enjoyed the Starboard and their famous breakfast, along with their cheesesteaks. Ducky’s hobbies included many long days on the beach, traveling with Barbara, working out, and in his early years, placing a bet on a game or two. His famous saying, take care of yourself, will live on forever.
Services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
