Salt Air Gardeners donates to Friends of Sussex CASA

January 25, 2022

Friends of Sussex CASA Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Sussex County children experiencing foster care, and their court-appointed special advocates, received a $1,440 donation from Salt Air Gardeners of Ocean View Jan. 7.

The generous gift was part of Salt Air Gardeners’ annual holiday giving campaign in support of local nonprofit organizations. Salt Air Gardeners selected Friends of Sussex CASA as this year’s recipient to support the group’s mission of providing financial resources for children experiencing foster care for things such as after-school activities and camps, school supplies, sports and music equipment, holiday gifts and more.

“We are honored to have been selected by the Salt Air Gardeners to receive this generous donation,” said Susan O’Doherty, Friends of Sussex CASA board president. “Through partnership with CASA advocates, these funds will be used to enrich the social, educational, physical and emotional well-being of children experiencing foster care in Sussex County.”

CASA volunteers work closely with attorneys representing youth in foster care to advocate for the best interests of children and make recommendations to the court to ensure the children’s needs are met while they are experiencing foster care.  Friends of Sussex CASA Inc. partners with more than 70 local court-appointed special advocates to identify individual children’s needs not met by state funds.

“The work that the Friends of Sussex CASA Inc. does in supporting CASAs and providing opportunities of enrichment to children experiencing foster care is wonderful,” said Oksana Hoey, Salt Air Gardeners board president. “The Salt Air Gardeners are proud to support this organization.”
