Donald Leo Martz, United Telephone retiree

Donald Leo Martz (Red), 79, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Cape Coral Hospital in Cape Coral, Fla. He was born Oct. 2, 1942, in Hanover, Pa., the son of the late Ceceilia and Leo Martz.

Donald married Rebecca J. Martz and went on to have four children. He graduated from Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, Pa., and was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, and worked with United Telephone for 37 years as a lineman/engineer retiring in 2000. He was the owner/operator of D.L. Martz Electric in St. Thomas.

Donald was a life member of St. Thomas Sportsman Association, American Legion Post 612, VFW Post 1599, Marine Corps League, St. Thomas Fire Company, Pennville Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of the Bunker Busters for Fort Miles Historical Association. He enjoyed woodworking, trap shooting, hunting, fishing, and boating.

Donald is survived by his wife, Rebecca J. (Willet) Martz; and children, Melissa (Jerry) Fleming, Bradley (Robin) Martz, and Cheryl (Mark) Leedy. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Christina Fleming, Shane Fleming, Shelby Rickabaugh, Jason Pyles, and Jeremy Pyles; and six great-grandchildren, Bentley Rickabaugh, Leah Rickabaugh, Grayson Pyles, Hudson Pyles, Leighanna Pyles, and Peyton Fasso.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Martz.

Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. There will be a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Sellers Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Sellers Funeral Home.
