COVID-19 antiviral treatments now available at Aspira Health

March 2, 2022

Aspira Health and Cape Pharmacy have partnered to expand care in Southern Delaware and offer COVID-19 treatment for those who have tested positive for the virus.

To learn about eligibility and how to get a prescription for the Pfizer antiviral treatment by contacting Aspira and scheduling an appointment with one’s primary care doctor, go to YouTube and search COVID Treatment Now Available in Delaware - Aspira Health and Cape Pharmacy in Sussex County.

People who are not feeling well and have tested positive may be eligible for Paxlovid and Molnupiravir. Those who have mild to moderate symptoms may want to consider these two options.

Both medications are free and require a prescription. Only certain pharmacies have the meds, and Cape Pharmacy is one of them. Supplies are limited, but access is increasing slowly.

Neither of these meds are considered monoclonal antibodies, although monoclonal antibodies are available at Aspira Health by prescription.

Neither of these therapies should be considered substitutes for vaccination.

To explore treatment options, people should talk to their doctors. All providers at Aspira Health are well versed in these therapies and happy to prescribe them for qualified patients.

Oral treatment options for COVID are now available in pill form at local pharmacies.

Molnupiravir, made by Merck, is for patients 18 years of age and older who have a positive COVID test result. Patients must start the treatment within five days of symptom onset, but the sooner the better. Molnupiravir is recommended for patients with mild to moderate disease who are at risk for progression to severe disease, including hospitalization or death. The dose is 800mg every 12 hours for five days.

Paxlovid, made by Pfizer, is for patients 12 years of age and older weighing at least 88 pounds who have a positive COVID test result. Patients must start treatment within five days of symptom onset, but the sooner the better. Paxlovid is recommended for patients with mild to moderate disease who are at risk for progression to severe disease, including hospitalization or death. The dose is a combination of two meds, taken twice daily for five days. These two meds are nirmatrelvir and ritonavir.
