Sussex council not meeting April 12, 19

Sussex County Council will not meet April 12 or 19. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 26.

No vote on Mitchell’s Corner applications

At its March 24 meeting, Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission deferred votes on four applications filed by Henlopen Properties LLC for Mitchell’s Corner, a proposed mixed-use commercial and residential complex at the intersection of Kings Highway and Gills Neck Road, Lewes. The proposed project includes 114 duplexes, 153 townhomes and a 3-acre commercial/office building site. Sussex County Council will hold a public hearing on the applications at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.

Rehoboth stormwater task force meeting

The Rehoboth Beach Stormwater Utility Task Force will hold its first meeting at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 5. The agenda calls for an overview of payment options, a summary of city costs related to stormwater and consideration of future agenda topics.

The meeting will be conducted in person in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.

Lewes BoA to meet April 5

The Lewes Board of Adjustment will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, at city hall and via Zoom. The board will consider a variance request to allow for a reduction in lot depth and lot size at 111 New Road. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net.

Sussex council meeting April 5

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are discussions of new planning and zoning land-use application public hearing signs, and adoption of building construction standards in the International Building Code 2021 edition and the International Residential Code 2021 edition. Dewey commissioners meet April 8

Dewey Beach commissioners will meet at 4 p.m., Friday, April 8, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Possible votes include an ordinance to increase the penalty for accommodations tax nonpayment and an ordinance permitting the towing of vehicles parked in a designated lifeguard space without authorization. Commissioners will also discuss next steps regarding the alderman court and if a charter change is desired to continue to house the court in town or to refer to outside court systems. Rehoboth workshop set Monday, April 4

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will meet at 9 a.m., Monday, April 4. The agenda calls for discussions on outdoor dining on private property, parking at Deauville Beach and beginning to plan for the city’s 150th anniversary in 2023.

Shakespeare Fest back, bigger than ever

Throughout April, the Lewes Public Library will be hosting live performances, workshops, lectures and films celebrating spoken word artistry generally and the Bard specifically.

Professional performing artists, lecturers, and workshop presenters from New York, Philadelphia and Annapolis, Md., will be joined by Delaware Shakespeare company members, University of Delaware faculty, Biggs Museum and Folger Shakespeare Library staff, and local favorites to provide a month of first-rate experiences to the community.
