Planning commission to meet in Lewes

The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, at the Rollins Community Center and via Zoom. The group will discuss the five-year review of the city’s comprehensive plan. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net.

Lewes African American Heritage Commission to meet

The Lewes African American Heritage Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 21, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will receive updates on a historic marker, an oral history project, Johnnie Walker and Savannah beaches, a Juneteenth celebration and public art committee projects. Environment group to gather in Rehoboth

The Rehoboth Beach Environment Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 21. The agenda calls for an update on the straw-free initiative, and discussions on the city’s climate action plan, use of gas-powered landscape equipment, and offshore wind farms and their impacts on coastal Delaware.

Rehoboth planning to host CDP hearing

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 2 p.m., Friday, April 22, to gather comments for the public record regarding the city's 2020 Comprehensive Development Plan update.

The meeting will be conducted in person in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. People will be also able to participate virtually for this meeting; to do so, preregister with City Secretary Ann Womack by emailing awomack@cityofrehoboth.com at least 24 hours in advance.

Eastern Sussex Dems to meet April 21

The Eastern Sussex Democrats will meet from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 21, at Fins Ale House & Raw Bar, 19269 Coastal Hwy., Rehoboth Beach.

Sen. Tom Carper will be the guest speaker, focusing on current events and his work on the Senate Environmental Committee.

Food bank plans drive-thru April 25

The Food Bank of Delaware will host a drive-thru mobile pantry distribution at 10 a.m., Monday, April 25, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown for families facing food insecurity. Participants should make sure their trunks or back seats are cleared out so volunteers can load food. The Food Bank of Delaware is prepared to serve up to 1,000 households.

To help speed up the check-in process, preregistration is requested at Apr25Sussex.eventbrite.com. Onsite registration will also be available. Service will be first-come, first-served. Assistance is limited to one per household. Recipients must bring proof that they live in Delaware, such as a state-issued ID, utility bill or Delaware SNAP benefits card.

LWV provides school board election info

Five of the six school districts in Sussex County will hold school board elections Tuesday, May 10. Information about candidates, in their own words, is available at vote411.org, a website created by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters. Vote411.org users can enter an address to find the relevant election districts and a variety of other Delaware voting information.

Later this year, the LVW will invite state and local candidates for other public offices to provide information for the website. For more information, go to the League of Women Voters of Sussex County website, sussexlwv.org.
