Pulitzer Prize winner Kathryn Schulz to discuss memoir June 9

June 1, 2022

Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Kathryn Schulz will discuss her new memoir “Lost & Found” at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 9, at the Lewes Public Library.

Schulz will be joined in conversation by Ethan Joella, and English and psychology instructor at the University of Delaware, and author of “A Little Hope.”

The event is hosted by the library, Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild and Browseabout Books, and will also be available via Zoom.

“Lost & Found” is an uncommon book about common experiences. Eighteen months before Schulz’s beloved father died, she met the woman she would marry. Schulz weaves the stories of those relationships into an exploration of how people’s lives are shaped by loss and discovery – from the maddening disappearance of everyday objects to the sweeping devastations of war, pandemic and natural disaster; from finding new planets to falling in love. Schulz writes with curiosity, tenderness, insight and wit about people’s finite yet infinitely complicated lives.

Registration is required, and participants signing up will be asked to select virtual or in-person attendance. To register, go to tinyurl.com/zoomwithauthors or lewes.lib.de.us.

Schulz is a staff writer at The New Yorker and the author of “Being Wrong.” She won a National Magazine Award and a Pulitzer Prize for her article about seismic risk in the Pacific Northwest, titled The Really Big One. “Lost & Found” grew out of a New Yorker story titled Losing Streak that was anthologized in The Best American Essays.

Participants are encouraged to support the author by purchasing a signed copy of the book from local independent bookstore Browseabout Books. Orders may be placed online at browseaboutbooks.com, by calling the store at 302-226-2665, or in person at 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Books will also be available for purchase and signing at the event for in-person attendants.
