Cape Henlopen High School girls’ lacrosse team, the defending Delaware state champions, will host a play day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 17, at the school’s field complex in Lewes. The Delmar/Mid-Atlantic Lacrosse Play Day will be the most competitive and most prestigious girls’ high school lacrosse competition in the United States this spring. No other event in the country will assemble this many top-ranked teams in one location.
Three of the top 10 teams in the country will be represented, including No. 1 McDonogh, No. 6 Good Counsel and No. 8 Downingtown East. Six of the eight teams participating in the play day were ranked in the top 50 of more than 2,500 teams in LaxPower’s final 2010 high school rankings.
The top teams from the metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Md.; Philadelphia, Pa.; Washington, D.C.; and the Mid-Atlantic region were invited to come to the Delmarva Peninsula to compete with the two best teams from Delmarva.
Teams will include McDonogh and Severna Park (Baltimore), Good Counsel and St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes (Washington, D.C.), Downingtown East (Philadelphia), Mountain Lakes (Mid-Atlantic) and Queen Anne's County and Cape Henlopen (Delmarva). Each team will play three 40-minute running time games.
