Lewes to host orientation meeting
The City of Lewes will hold an orientation session at 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, at the Rollins Center.
Incoming and returning members will meet the staff, and learn about the structure of their respective commissions and committees.
City policies and protocols for committee meetings will be explained, followed by time for questions and answers.

Lewes workshop on park master plan set
The City of Lewes will hold a public workshop to discuss the Great Marsh Park Master Plan from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, at the Rollins Center.
For those unable to attend in person, there will be an opportunity to participate online.

Lewes capital projects committee to meet
The Lewes Capital Projects Committee will meet at 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, at City Hall.
Updates will be provided on current and planned street, building, vehicle and equipment capital projects.

Rally for the Planet set June 9 in Dover
Delaware Interfaith Power & Light will take part in a Rally for the Planet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, June 9, on the steps of Legislative Hall in Dover.
The event, sponsored by the Sierra Club Delaware Chapter, comes in connection with the recent filing of Senate Bill 305, the Delaware Climate Change Solutions Act. This legislation would establish a statutory requirement for greenhouse gas emissions reductions over the medium and long term to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on the state.

Dewey commissioners recommend alderman
Dewey Beach commissioners voted unanimously June 3 to approve a sending a resolution to Gov. John Carney recommending the nomination and term of service of Kelly Pettyjohn to serve as town alderman.
Rehoboth planning meeting canceled
The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Friday, June 10, has been canceled due to a lack of agenda items, according to a June 2 press release from the city.
Cape school board meets June 9
The Cape Henlopen school board will hold a workshop meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 9, at Love Creek Elementary. Members will discuss the fiscal year 2023 tax rate proposal and may possibly vote on pay periods for the 2023 fiscal year. The full agenda and Zoom link are available at capehenlopenschools.com.
Henlopen Acres sets budget meeting
Henlopen Acres commissioners will meet at 10 a.m., Friday, June 10, in town hall, 104 Tidewaters, to discuss and possibly adopt the town’s budget for the next fiscal year, which begins Friday, July 1. The agenda also calls for the adoption of the tax rate, water rates and fee schedule.

Dewey comp plan committee to meet
The Dewey Beach Comprehensive Development Plan Committee will meet virtually at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 11. Members and the town manager will review issues that have been accomplished and will be in the annual report to be finalized later in June. The full agenda is available at townofdeweybeach.com.
Bayside hotel project gets preliminary OK
At its May 26 meeting, the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission approved a preliminary site plan for a new phase at Americana Bayside, a multifamily residential-planned community near Fenwick Island first approved in February 2001. Bayside Hotel Phase 1B includes a 60-room, 39,517-square-foot hotel, bar, restaurant, pool, Zen garden, spa, lounge and outdoor seating on Lakeview Drive. The final site plan is subject to review and approval by the planning & zoning commission.
The Bayside community is home to the Freeman Arts Pavilion and includes numerous amenities such as pools, a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, trails, dog park, a health and aquatic club, market place, access to local waterways and tennis courts. Bayside is the largest subdivision in Sussex County, with more than 4,000 housing units.
DelDOT Five Points open house is June 22
The rescheduled Delaware Department of Transportation public open house on the Five Points Transportation Study will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, in the Cape Henlopen High School library, 1250 Kings Hwy., Lewes.
During the open house, a review of the 2021 annual report will be given, and a schedule will be provided for the rest of the year.
