Abortion is still legal in Delaware
Today, the world changed for Americans. The conservative-dominated Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade and removed the rights of women in America to make their own reproductive health decisions.
In 2022, women have less freedom than their mothers.
I want everyone to know and understand that safe and legal abortion services are still available in Delaware. If you have an appointment for an abortion procedure, keep it. Pregnant people of the First State can decide for themselves on how they choose to manage their pregnancy and their overall reproductive health.
However, we know an abortion ban only succeeds in preventing legal abortions. Those with power, money and influence will still have access to services denied to their economically disadvantaged neighbors, who will seek out riskier procedures performed under dangerous conditions. We also know abortion bans prevent doctors from offering crucial, lifesaving care in emergency situations.
For an individual to have control over their reproductive health means they have more control over their future – their quality of life and that of any children they do have, as well as how they choose to contribute to society. While Delaware is not in danger of an abortion ban, plenty of other states are. For being small in size, we maintain an outsized influence both in leading the fight for abortion rights nationally and as a safe haven for those from other states who won’t have access to abortion services.
Access to healthcare for all is our guiding principle at Planned Parenthood of Delaware, and safe and reliable abortion services are crucial to the health of women throughout our state and our nation. We support the freedom of all Americans, no matter where they live, to make their own decisions about how to manage their health. And we will work tirelessly to ensure that these freedoms are not abridged.
This is a cruel ruling. Americans have the opportunity to voice their shock and disapproval at the ballot box.
Spread the word – abortion is still legal in Delaware.
