Bayhealth appoints new chief nurse executive

July 22, 2022

Bayhealth, a Dover-based health system, has named Rosemary “Rosi” Wurster, DNP, RN, MPH, NEA-BC, as its newly appointed chief nursing executive.

July 18 was her first official day leading the Magnet-designated team of more than 730 Bayhealth nurses.

Wurster joins Bayhealth from Tower Health’s Reading Hospital in Pennsylvania, where she served as chief nursing officer. Prior to her time with Tower Health, she spent more than 20 years at Main Line Health serving in various senior nursing leadership executive roles including system vice president of nursing operations.

“We are truly honored that Rosi has chosen to relocate to Delaware to join the Bayhealth team,” said Terry M. Murphy, FACHE, Bayhealth president and CEO.  “Rosi’s deeply held commitment to patient care was felt by all of us who had the pleasure of meeting her throughout our recruitment process. She has a pragmatic, yet compassionate approach to nursing, which is a strong fit for our patient care services team as well as a good fit for the Kent and Sussex County communities we serve.”

In her new role with Bayhealth, Wurster will be responsible for setting the vision and leading the nursing team at central and southern Delaware’s largest health system. She will oversee daily hospital operations, compliance with federal and state regulations, nursing practice and education, among other duties.

“I feel my career has been leading me to this moment,” Wurster said. “Magnet-designated teams are among only 11 percent of hospitals nationwide. To work alongside the Bayhealth nurses and entire patient care services team to set a vision and ensure every patient receives the high-quality and personalized care they deserve is what led me to Bayhealth. I’m so pleased to be able to serve the Bayhealth mission, and the residents of central and southern Delaware.”

Wurster holds a doctor of nursing practice degree from Drexel University, post master’s in nursing administration from Villanova University, and master of public health degree as well as a bachelor of science degree in nursing from West Chester University.
