August 11, 2022

The Food Bank of Delaware is accepting applications for its free culinary school workforce training program. Daytime classes begin Monday, Sept. 12, at the Food Bank’s Milford branch and meet in person for 14 weeks. Interested students should sign up by Monday, Aug. 29. Under the instruction of Chef Instructor Tish Badamshin, students will learn basic and high-end kitchen skills, and participate in a two-week paid work experience. Participants also have the chance to earn ServSafe certification.

Kicha Roman, a July graduate of the training program, said, “Accepting me into the [program] was the best thing that ever happened to me. This program has made my life better. Thank you for helping me to succeed and to be a better person.”

In addition to accelerated training programs needed to start new careers in just a few months, the Food Bank of Delaware also provides students with job matching, transportation assistance, uniforms and supplies, paid work experience and textbooks.

“Our training programs are truly life-changing,” said Cathy Kanefsky, Food Bank of Delaware president and CEO. “They provide a fresh start to so many Delawareans. Thanks to generous donors, we can provide this valuable training at no cost. We know that so many are looking for new career opportunities; this is a perfect place to gain the needed skills for a rewarding career.”
