Historic Lewes Farmers Market season ends Nov. 19

November 17, 2022

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be open for the last time this season from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 19, at 820 Savannah Road. It is also the last Saturday to purchase yams, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mushrooms, pies and all the fixins’ for Thanksgiving. The market thanks all of its customers, farmers/producers, volunteers and other supporters for their contributions this year. The 2023 market season is expected to open Saturday, May 6, at George H.P. Smith Park.

This Saturday’s Thanksgiving Market will feature broccoli, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, beets, radishes, multicolored sweet peppers, carrots, onions, garlic, leeks, apples, pears, persimmons, cider, apple cider donuts and more. Greens include Lacinato and Tuscan kale, spinach, collard greens, mustard greens, and Swiss chard. Customers will also find beef, pork, lamb, chicken, fresh-picked crab, oysters, eggs, yogurt, butter, milk, mushrooms, herbs including freshly harvested turmeric root, parsley, rosemary, sage and more. There will be a great selection of pastries, pies, cookies, and breads including gluten-free desserts as well as kombucha, jams, honey, crab and other soups, locally roasted coffee, pumpkin centerpieces, wreaths and more.

The market continues its special food drive Nov. 19. Customers can purchase fresh food at the market to donate to local food pantries, either by bringing them to the HLFM Food Drive table or asking the farmer to put the items aside for the food pantries to pick up.

Customers are also asked to bring nonperishable items to the market for donation, such as spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jams and jellies, canned fruits/vegetables/soups, boxed cereal, powdered or shelf-stable milk, rice and beans. Donations should honor the HLFM's mission and the health needs of those who use the food bank by providing healthy foods. Diapers, menstrual hygiene products and laundry detergent are also needed, and can be dropped off at the HLFM Food Drive table next to the information tent and at other market entrances.

The market processes SNAP, WIC and SFMNP, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Customers may go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

Dogs at the market must be under control on a tightly held, non-retractable leash.

The market thanks the Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2022 HLFM Market Champion, and all other sponsors for their continued support.
