Irish Eyes gets approval for St. Patrick’s Day parade

February 14, 2023

Milton Town Council unanimously approved street closures related to the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade and Lucky Leprechaun 5K run.

The town approvals are conditional upon Irish Eyes receiving approval from Delaware Department of Transportation, which maintains Union Street.

Events will kick off with the Lucky Leprechaun 5K, hosted by Seashore Striders at 11 a.m., Sunday, March 12. The parade will kick off at 2 p.m. starting at the intersection of Union Street and Atlantic Avenue and ending at Milton Elementary School on Federal Street. The parade will last one to two hours with an afterparty at Irish Eyes at 6 p.m.

Irish Eyes requested street closures on Union Street starting at Bay Avenue, where there will be a staging area on the side streets and a vehicle registration area. Additional closures will be at the intersections of Union and Tilney streets, Union and Federal streets, and Federal and Mulberry streets.

Irish Eyes has put on the parade every year in downtown Milton since 2008, except for 2021 when the parade was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Money raised by the parade goes to local community organizations. This year’s beneficiaries are Milton Fire Department, Milton Chamber of Commerce and Women’s Club of Milton. The 2022 edition of the parade and 5K raised more than $21,000.
