100 Women Who Care donates $10K to Family Promise

March 12, 2023

Members of 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware recently presented an award of $10,200 to Family Promise of Southern Delaware Executive Director Carolyn Ames Kelley and board members.

A matching grant in the amount of $5,000 will be contributed by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, based in Minnesota.

The Southern Delaware chapter is one of the newest affiliates of national Family Promise Inc., and this nonprofit organization assists Sussex County families at imminent risk of homelessness. The vision is to address the issue holistically, providing prevention services before families reach crisis, along with case management and stabilization programs to ensure they remain independent once they have secured housing.

“Family Promise of Southern Delaware is focusing its efforts on preventing families from becoming homeless, therefore avoiding the trauma that comes with it,” said Kelley. “Funds raised through this effort will be used to augment our case management abilities to better support our families. At the heart of our mission is the belief that every child deserves a home.”

On behalf of 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware, Jeri Berc expressed delight in being able to support the efforts of Family Promise. She related how the local chapter recently helped a woman and her three children who were living in their car by finding them a suitably located home so one of the children could continue attending the Sussex Consortium, a school that offers services to students with various special needs.

All women are invited to join and support initiatives that contribute to the vitality and welfare of Southern Delaware neighbors and communities. Each member commits to donating $100 to the local nonprofit selected at quarterly meetings. Local businesses are encouraged to partner in this initiative through matching funds.
