Dogfish brews Mostly Oceans to benefit Surfrider Foundation

March 29, 2023

Dogfish Head’s Rehoboth Brewpub, Brewings & Eats, launched Mostly Oceans (6.8% ABV), a Sticke Altbier brewed to benefit the Delaware Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation in March.

Raising $6,000 for the nonprofit organization, Mostly Oceans is the first of Dogfish Head’s 2023 Benevolence Beer releases, a series of four beers each year that are conceptualized and brewed in collaboration with a different local group.

Teaming up to create a beer that celebrates those who ride, protect and enjoy the ocean’s epic waves, the brewing team at Dogfish Head’s Rehoboth brewpub and the Delaware Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation began digging through surfer cookbooks and recipe websites, in search of the most delicious combination of surfer-centric goodness.

“Mostly Oceans features a luscious base of bready and toasty malts, along with decadent cocoa, buckwheat, nutty oats and fruity dates,” said Bryan Selders, Dogfish Head brewing manager. “Inspired by surfers’ favorite snacks, it is a uniquely rich and satisfying beer, the perfect way to end an epic surf session.”

Each 4-pack of Mostly Oceans is held together with an ocean-friendly carrier, made from recycled industrial material that can be composted to help grow a healthier planet.

"The Delaware Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is thrilled to once again partner with Dogfish Head's Beer & Benevolence program,” said Emily Bryant-Álvarez, chapter vice chair. "Dogfish Head puts its money where its mouth is —or in this case, its hops— and we are grateful for its support. Dogfish is truly a leader in supporting and promoting local environmental stewardship. And hey, who isn't thirsty after cleaning up beaches?"
