The Friends of Canalfront Park board would like to extend its deepest thanks to all those who made the 2023 Bunny Bonanza an overwhelming success that was, literally, boatloads of fun. Special thanks to Chuck Moore for loaning us his handcrafted Bevins boat, Matt Carter of Quest Fitness & Kayak and the Lewes Yacht Club, which provided rubber inner tubes and a raft — all of which were loaded with thousands of candy-filled eggs.
Kudos to the volunteers from the Villages of Five Points who stuffed more than 6,000 eggs; to the many volunteers who set up and took down all the tables and tents; students from Cape Henlopen High School, Sussex Academy and Worcester Prep, who helped the children paint commemorative wooden eggs; Sussex Academy tennis coach Pat Breen and his players, who entertained kids with mini-tennis games throughout the event; and the incredible face-painting crew from CopyCat Paint Parties.
Special thanks to the Sea Sisters of Freedom Boat Club for sponsoring and delivering the Easter Bunny in a decorative flotilla down the canal to the dock at Lewes Canalfront Park; Cape Henlopen student Gavin Rineer, our tireless energizer bunny, and his handler Legacy Hayes; and the EB’s security detail, McGruff the Crime Dog, provided by the Lewes Police Department.
A shout-out to the City of Lewes, our sponsors Coastal Cottage Renovations, Heirloom, The Inn at Canal Square, the Issel Family, the Lee Ann Wilkinson Group and Kids’ Ketch, which donated three generous prizes to the winners of the Guess the Jellies in the Fish Belly contest; and all those who contributed to the UNICEF Children’s Fund, which has garnered donations of $600 over the last two years.
And, finally, a huge thank you to the 1,200-plus attendees whose appreciation and enthusiasm made the Bunny Bonanza a tremendous community event for all.
