Tornado victims thank community for support

April 25, 2023

To try and put into words how thankful I am for all the support and caring gestures is extremely difficult. I truly don’t know where to begin and I know I can never express my gratitude and thankfulness enough to everyone who has been there for me since April 1. The EF-3 tornado that hit Sussex County made an impact on so many lives, and the support from our community has been overwhelming.

Thank you for the monetary donations, gift cards, for washing clothes, fixing us food and dropping by gift baskets and personal items for both me and my pets. Thank you for the raffle donations at the race tracks and the auction items at the Cape Community Foundation event. A special thank you to Jordan and Alison Watson, board members of the Cape Community Foundation, New Egypt Speedway, Georgetown Speedway and the community businesses and local bands for all the items/time donated to help make these benefits so amazing!

To the family members, volunteers and businesses that gave up their time Saturday night, Sunday and Monday to help us clean up and try to salvage items, thank you. Without your efforts, this entire process would have been so hard and overwhelming in itself. The community showed up with food, supplies and manpower, so many of which we never had the chance to learn their name. While so many individuals have helped pitch in during site clean up, I’d like to give special acknowledgement to the Good Ole Boy Foundation, Scott Hitchens Enterprises, Jim Warrington Contractor, Kenny Adams/Stockley Materials, Collins Acres LLC, Shannon Argo/Blue Hen, Jason Harvey, Tull’s Metal & Lumber Sales, and Contractors for a Cause. Thank you to the Greenwood and Blades fire companies and Delaware Electric Cooperative for responding to my house and securing my property and protecting us from other dangers. To my neighbors, thank you for saving my dogs and cat from running too far away. The list could just go on and on!

We are all overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support, and my vow is that I will save and safeguard these donations to help restart my homeowner journey. We truly appreciate all your calls, texts and outreach to check on all of us – we are forever grateful!
