Lewes library author events start May 3
The Lewes Public Library’s spring program schedule is blooming with free activities for the community, including author conversations in partnership with Browseabout Books.
Shannon McKenna Schmidt will discuss her new book “The First Lady of World War II: Eleanor Roosevelt's Daring Journey to the Frontlines and Back” with Paul Sparrow, former director of the FDR Presidential Library and Museum, live online via Zoom, at 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 3. Schmidt’s work is the first book to tell the full story of Eleanor Roosevelt's unprecedented, secret and courageous trip to the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Brenda Novak will visit the library at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 4, for a discussion and book signing of her latest novel “The Seaside Library.” Her captivating story of three friends reunited for a summer on Mariners Island reveals secrets and memories from years past — and uncovers truths that will bind them as closely as the pages of a book. Her visit gives attendees the opportunity to visit Novak’s Traveling Bookstore and mini coffee shop, which will be parked outside the library.
John Vercher will be joined by Orlando R. Serrano Jr., lead educator at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, for a discussion and signing of his book, “After the Lights Go Out,” at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 18. Versher’s harrowing, spellbinding story covers family, the complications of mixed-race relationships, misplaced loyalties, and the price athletes pay to entertain. The event will also be livestreamed via Zoom.
Registration is required at tinyurl.com/zoomwithauthors or the library website, lewes.lib.de.us.
