CAMP Rehoboth awarded $300K community reinvestment fund grant

August 4, 2023

In July, CAMP Rehoboth Community Center was awarded a $300,000 grant from the State of Delaware.

The award is part of the General Assembly’s allocation within the bond bill’s community reinvestment fund, a capital grant program for local and community-based nonprofit organizations.

The grant will allow CAMP Rehoboth to invest in high-priority capital repair projects at the center. The projects will allow CAMP Rehoboth to expand accessibility, enhance safety, increase sustainability and improve efficiencies, with resulting cost savings. Funds will also enhance space used for the delivery of vital CAMP Rehoboth services and include several other renovations aimed at preserving the integrity of the property.

CAMP Rehoboth strives to build safe, inclusive communities with room for all, and where all gender identities and sexual orientations are respected. CAMP Rehoboth’s campus consists of two properties on Baltimore Avenue: 37 Baltimore houses the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center and its offices, and 39 is primarily a rental property consisting of CAMP Rehoboth’s health suite and five units that provide income for CAMP Rehoboth programs. Completing the campus is the courtyard between the two properties, which serves as an outdoor gathering place.

The two properties are located in the major commercial hub of Rehoboth Beach, just two blocks from the ocean. The campus provides tangible value as a gathering place for support, connection and celebration, and as a hub for a wide range of programs and activities.

Projected renovations include installation of solar panels, automatic doors, a lift and a high-grade security system. Several repairs will be allocated to the campus, new kitchens and bathrooms, and improved siding and awnings that will create a more positive and welcoming environment.

“CAMP Rehoboth is grateful for the state’s decision to invest in us and see us as a valuable resource in the community,” said Lisa Evans, CAMP Rehoboth interim deputy director.

Kim Leisey, CAMP Rehoboth executive director, said, “We are appreciative of the state’s support and look forward to the improvements which will allow us to continue serving others of all age ranges.”

The schedule of repairs is being developed, and work will begin soon on high-priority capital repair projects at the center. Stay tuned to communications via the CAMP Rehoboth website and social media about how these projects will impact the center’s hours of operation.
