Bayhealth offers community wellness clinics
Bayhealth’s education team offers support at monthly Bayhealth Community Wellness Program clinics. As part of Bayhealth’s steadfast commitment to quality patient care and the overall health of the community, clinics are free and open to anyone.
At each clinic, individuals will be able to have their blood pressure read and their medicines reviewed, talk to a nurse about any concerns, and be linked to appropriate community resources for optimal health.
Current Sussex County clinic sites and dates include: Slaughter Neck Community Center, 22942 Slaughter Neck Road, Lincoln, from 9 to 11 a.m., third Wednesday each month; Shepherd’s Office, 408 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, 4 to 6 p.m., third Wednesday each month; and Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., first Thursday each month.

Cash bingo at Milton Fire Hall set Oct. 5
Cash bingo hosted by the Milton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Milton Fire Department, 116 Front St., Milton. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 reserved in advance and $25 at the door. Text 302-448-1552 and leave a name and number of tickets needed to reserve a spot. Coastal Sussex NARFE meeting RSVPs due Oct. 5
Coastal Sussex Delaware Chapter 1690 NARFE will meet at 12 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, at 1776 Steakhouse in the Midway Shopping Center between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. The guest speaker will discuss elder law, and wills and estates. Reservations are required by 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, to trombello@comcast.net.
The cost of the luncheon is $19 per person including gratuities, and payment is made upon arrival.
The Nov. 9 meeting will address healthcare open season. New long-term care premiums for federal employees will go into effect Monday, Jan. 1.

Wings & Wheels kickoff party set Oct. 6
Wings & Wheels weekend will start with a Night in the Tropics party from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6, in front of the hangar at Coastal Delaware Airport.
Cocktails at Three will provide musical entertainment, and Mission BBQ will cater a buffet dinner. Freebirds Mobile Bar will be on hand with cocktails, beer and wine.Kona Ice will provide dessert.
The band will give a special tribute to Margaritaville’s head parrot Jimmy Buffett, and Buffett music will play while the band is on break. The night also provides an opportunity to view and take photos with WWII aircraft that will be on display Saturday, and mingle with WWII re-enactors and some of the USNA parachute team members.

Big Draw Festival returns to Milford Oct. 7
Mispillion Art League will again host The Big Draw Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7. Attendees can enjoy free, family-friendly art activities on Park Avenue in downtown Milford.
First organized in the United Kingdom in 2000, the Big Draw Festival is now the world’s biggest celebration of drawing. It promotes the universal language of drawing as a tool to learn, express and invent. This year’s theme, Drawing with Senses, is a call back to what one is experiencing in the moment. MAL will offer activities designed to engage touch, sight, sound, taste and smell in the creation of art.

Blessing of the animals set Oct. 7 in Rehoboth
Westminster Presbyterian and St. Edmond Catholic churches will hold a blessing of the animals free community event from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at Laurel Street and King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach.
The unconditional love people give to and receive from their pets can draw them more deeply into the larger circle of life with the creator. Attendees may bring a pet or a photo of a pet. Joseph Terrone fine art sale set Oct. 7

Fireside Chat to highlight Eleanor Roosevelt’s early years Oct. 8
The next segment of Lewes Public Library’s discussion series, Fireside Chats: Exploring the Roosevelt Legacy, is set for 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, at the library’s fireplace area, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. The event, hosted by Paul Sparrow, former director of the FDR Presidential Library and Museum, will also be available to view live online via Zoom.
Sparrow will showcase Eleanor Roosevelt’s early years, with a look at the remarkable transformation she underwent in her youth. While Roosevelt’s accomplishments as first lady and as a champion for human rights the world over are well known, the important events of her early years that enabled her to become one of America’s most successful cultural icons are less well known.

Delaware Arts Summit to convene in Dewey Beach Oct. 9
The 2023 Delaware Arts Summit will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m, Monday, Oct. 9, at Hyatt Place Dewey Beach.
An exceptional lineup of speakers will inspire and enlighten 200 attendees. This year's summit promises a gathering of visionaries and enthusiasts in the arts and culture sector. With a focus on innovation, collaboration and creativity, the summit aims to foster conversations that will shape the future of Delaware's vibrant arts community.
The five speakers at the 2023 Delaware Arts Summit are: Roberto Lugo, ceramicist, artist and social activist; Dori Kelner, Insightful Culture principal; Rebecca Mwase, theater and performance artist, cultural organizer; Patricia Rivera, Hook PR & Marketing founder and CEO; and Benjamin Wagner, Essential Industries Inc. founder.

14th RD Dems to host lieutenant governor candidate Oct. 11
Debbie Harrington, PhD, a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, will address the 14th Representative District Democratic Committee Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Iron Hill Brewery on Coastal Highway north of Rehoboth Beach.
A retired U.S. Army colonel and church administrator, Harrington currently serves as a vice chair of the Delaware Democratic Party and the Delaware State University board of trustees.
The program will begin at 5 p.m. with a Dutch treat dinner, followed by Harrington’s remarks at 6 p.m. and committee business at 6:30 p.m.
Harrington will discuss her current campaign and the background that has earned her a lifetime achievement award for community service from the NAACP.
The committee represents Democrats who live in the Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach communities.
All registered Democrats are welcome to participate in 14th RD meetings.
