Sussex Go Red for Women raises funds, awareness
More than 100 supporters gathered at the Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center in Rehoboth Beach Oct. 26 to enjoy a healthy brunch and fashion show while raising funds and awareness at the American Heart Association’s annual Sussex Go Red for Women event.
The day’s activities included blood pressure screenings, a silent auction, keynote address by Beebe Healthcare cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Steven Marra and survivor testimony from patient Richard Ambrose.
After lunch, Blooming Boutique owner Micha Seto emceed a fashion show featuring models sporting a variety of clothes and accessories from her shops.
Women face a higher risk of stroke, according to the American Heart Association. In fact, one in five women has a stroke, and about 55,000 more women than men have a stroke each year. Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death in women, killing more than 80,000 women annually, and Black women have the highest prevalence of stroke.
