Maryland man charged with sexual solicitation of children

November 2, 2023

A Maryland man and former custodian in the Indian River School District faces felony child solicitation charges.

Delaware State Police detectives began investigating Oct. 19, after they say Wayne Long, 66, of Berlin, Md., requested sexually explicit images through Snapchat from two underage boys. Police said Long requested the images in exchange for transportation to and from Sussex County beaches over the summer.

Long is also connected to athletic teams, including Sussex Central High School, and has attended sporting and other events in various school districts, police said.

Long turned himself in to police Oct. 30, when he was charged with two counts of felony sexual solicitation of a child under 18. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $80,000 cash bond.

The Delaware State Police Troop 4 Youth Aid Unit continues to investigate this incident in conjunction with the Delaware Department of Justice. Detectives ask anyone with information or who may be a victim to contact Det. R. Mears at 302-752-3809. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
