It’s that time of year; taxpayers are flooded with articles about how local budgets are strained and read between the lines of a possible, if not probable, tax increase.
I don’t understand how these agents of plight don’t consider or run our towns as we run our households. Bottom line: It’s time to start trimming the fat off the budget. No more freebies, community giveaways or monetary-sponsored events. Time to trim the fat off the bone.
If all the expenses were published, anyone reading this could easily make a difficult and heartfelt decision to eliminate, not add continued burdens to the taxpayers’ responsibility.
Most recently, one of our state representatives put before the Legislature a proclamation to declare November Gluten Free Month ... really! Just the time and effort recommending such a thing on our dime when things are tight is ludicrous. I’d like to see what that escapade cost the taxpayer in terms of time spent, paperwork, voting and publication. Don’t our representatives have better things to address?
It’s almost impossible to trim the federal budget from political pork as it’s continually squeezed into every important bill that comes in front of Congress. And what do we do? We vote the same charlatans into office every time. We taxpayers are idiots and deserve the monkey we carry on our backs. So don’t complain when the tax man/person comes a knockin’!
