We deserve better than DART

November 10, 2023

On Nov. 4, I was patiently awaiting the DART Route 201 bus at the Rehoboth Bandstand to travel toward Lewes. It seemed as though bus service was limited because of a longer-than-normal wait. The bus finally arrived and I boarded. We departed around 2:45 p.m. and went to the Rehoboth Beach Park & Ride. There we were told we had to exit the bus. The driver claimed he had logged off and could not continue carrying us. We were told to catch another bus. So after a 15-minute wait, another bus showed up, and we boarded it. Upon departure, we headed out to Route 1. The first bus continued toward Lewes and we followed. All of a sudden, another bus came out of nowhere also heading toward Lewes without picking up any waiting passengers. Three buses on one route, only one utilized.

The whole operation was a disaster. Since when do you have to change buses when you board a bus downtown marked for the Lewes Park & Ride? If this is a pattern, then you should be informed upon your initial boarding.

Whoever at DART in Rehoboth Beach/Lewes oversees this operation should investigate and correct this deficiency. I asked my bus driver, “who oversees this operation here?” His response: DART. What an answer.

Then the icing on the cake: When I got off the bus, I attempted to get a drink at the water fountain by the bus. Shut off entirely for the season.

What a way to run a bus operation and a bus terminal. We surely deserve better than this.
