St. Jude’s congregation walks the walk

November 10, 2023

How inspiring it was to read the article on St. Jude’s desire to see a homeless shelter available for single women in our area. It is one thing to see a problem, but another to actually want to do something about it.

It is easy to talk about helping those less fortunate, but actually doing something about it is another story.

St. Jude’s congregation has offered to do all the work as well as provide all the necessary seed money, beds, supplies and even volunteers, if needed.

Will there be a church or owner of another suitable warm shelter who will step up to meet this critical need in our community?

Don’t let these single homeless women be without suitable shelter this winter.

Hopefully another congregation will be inspired to follow the example of the people from St. Jude’s, and not just talk about the need, but actually do something to meet that need.

It is written: “I was hungry and you gave me food, thirsty and you gave me something to drink,” and we might include, “homeless and you gave me shelter from the cold.”

Hopefully in a future edition of the Cape Gazette we will read of the opening of a Code Purple shelter for single women in our area.

Thank you Father Lewis, Mike Agnew and the congregation of St. Jude’s Parish for your great example of not just talking the talk, but actually walking the walk!
