Less than a week before Christmas, we had a chimney fire, and we immediately called 911. In less than 10 minutes, multiple fire trucks and EMT personnel arrived, headed by Lt. Jeremiah Burton. They quickly controlled the fire and did a thorough check of the roof and entire house. This occurred despite not being able to park a fire truck in our small driveway and having to quickly carry huge ladders and other equipment into our yard, then climb three stories with other equipment in hand to ensure there were no remaining hot spots.
The RBVFC team was incredibly speedy, professional and effective in extinguishing the fire, preventing it from spreading, but also in ventilating our home to prevent smoke damage. These kind volunteers are why we and our family were able to spend the holiday at home, and why we are not rebuilding our home today.
Please be certain to thank these skilled professionals who volunteer their time, and consider increasing your donation if you can so they may purchase the equipment needed, even in older developments. This hopefully includes those people who don't occupy their homes permanently; fires can start at or travel to uninhabited homes too.
