Garden center craft workshops kick off March 9
The Inland Bays Garden Center announced upcoming craft workshops at 38320 Muddy Neck Road, Frankford.
Four local women artists will share their creative talents through a variety of media from acrylic paint to decoupage to fiber art.
Sandy Wood will lead an acrylic art workshop with a focus on floral design from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 9. She will guide participants step by step as they master the art of painting hydrangeas, daisies and leaves, learning to create texture through the use of brushes and palette knives.
Kimberly Kieffer-Brown will take participants through the steps of decoupage oyster shells from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, March 16, using a choice of designs from paper napkins. Participants will decoupage two oyster shells, edge them with gold-leaf paint and add a loop of wooden beads to each one. Finished products can be used as ornaments, wine bottle charms, napkin rings or tabletop decorations.
Sharon Davis will teach a fiber art workshop for beginners in which participants will create a felted soap and a succulent vessel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23. Felting is the process of connecting or blending wool, wool roving or fiber together to make fabric. Wet felting uses water, soap and friction to tangle the wool/fibers together and produce stunning results. The vessels participants make in class will use wool from Bergschaf sheep. It is an easy fiber to work with, felts easily with temperature change and friction, and creates a firm, stable material.
Kathy Dennin-Meagher, Raye of Light Studio owner, will teach a painted pots class from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, April 5. Attendees will be instructed on how to paint a featured flower on a terra-cotta pot with acrylic. Participants may choose to purchase a flower from Inland Bays Garden Center to place in the completed project to take home.
