State needs to take littering seriously

March 1, 2024

I am trying to get an answer on who is responsible for the medians on Route 1 north of Bethany Beach to Kent County. There is a lot of trash in the medians. I know people see it. I have been told it is DelDOT's responsibility, but if so, what is its schedule for cleaning up the trash in the medians and on the roads?

Tourist season is coming. Maybe they don’t care about the trash, but maybe they do. Maybe if we start having fewer people visit our beaches and go somewhere cleaner, like Virginia Beach, the state will take action.

I have witnessed trash falling out of open-cab trucks, all kinds of them. I want to thank DNREC for coming out and getting the trash bags thrown in the medians and for picking up the large items like wood, siding, buckets, etc.

When will our state seriously see the problem, seriously address the problem, and make a plan to seriously help solve the problem?

Please increase the fines for littering, have fines for trash falling out of open cab trucks, and use the message boards up and down Route 1 to educate folks who live and travel here. Can we please be better humans and work together to stop trashing our roads and help our environment.
