Lewes is fortunate to have a deep bench of talent to help guide the city through a challenging array of issues. With the recent bid by Amy Marasco to seek a seat on Lewes City Council this May, we will have a seasoned, smart and compassionate addition to our town’s leadership.
Serving with Amy on the Lewes Planning Commission, I can attest to her vision, foresight and dedication to the values that continue to make Lewes the kind of place we want to live, recreate and raise our families in.
The same goes for Khalil Saliba, who has given selflessly as our deputy mayor.
The list of challenges is long and growing: inevitable rising seas and coastal flooding; a county that seems tone deaf to preserving the Lewes way of life and is approving sprawling development literally up to our city line and over our aquifer; infrastructure that is overburdened; schools that are busting at the seams.
Our best defense is an engaged citizenry, something we have here in Sussex. It is the first prerequisite for a functioning democracy. And as Churchill stated, democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the rest.
