The Cape Henlopen Education Association, representing the teachers and professional staff of the Cape Henlopen School District, have endorsed the district’s upcoming referendum.
This referendum will allow the district to:
• Purchase land for current and future expansion. The proposed land purchase provides a unique opportunity to acquire a large parcel of land centrally located within the district. Increasing land cost and continued development will make this opportunity nonexistent in the future
• Replace the current district office which the district has outgrown and has served the district for twice its expected service life. This will enable the district to house all administrative services in one location. Additionally, this will provide space on the current high school campus for future expansion of the high school
• Replace the current bus and transportation facility that is more than 45 years old and woefully inadequate to serve today's fleet of buses and vehicles. This will also allow the district to house all its vehicles in one central location
• Continue to provide funding for all teaching, para and administrative positions earned by the district. Cape Henlopen is the only district in Sussex County that funds all positions earned from the Department of Education. This will allow the district to continue to keep class sizes low and offer as many student services as possible. This will also allow the district to continue to offer after-school activities and clubs which are essential for our students
• Provide funding for safety and security needs as well as future technology, curriculum and maintenance needs.
On Tuesday May 21, the association encourages all residents of the Cape Henlopen School District to vote yes for this referendum. Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Rehoboth Elementary School, Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes library, Beacon Middle School and Mariner Middle School.
