Sussex council meeting July 16

Sussex County Council will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.

Included on the agenda are public hearings for a conditional-use application filed by Joshua Wharton for a landscaping business on an 8.5-acre parcel on Alma’s Way off Wil King Road near Lewes, and a conditional-use application filed by Play It Safe LLC for a professional office at 1510 Savannah Road, Lewes.

Lewes parks panel to meet July 15

The Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 5 p.m., Monday, July 15, at the Rollins Center.  

The agenda includes discussion and possible action on the commission’s mandate to engage in short- and long-range planning. See the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net.

Closures of Route 16 scheduled in July

Nightly closures of Route 16 west of Route 1 will occur from 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, through 7 a.m., Friday, July 19, for bridge construction. Nightly closures will also take place from 7 p.m., Monday, July 22, through 7 a.m., Wednesday, July 24.

Detours will be in place. Motorists eastbound on Route 16 to southbound Route 1 will use the new ramp. 

Drivers heading to eastbound Route 16 will U-turn using the Route 1 crossover to head north on Route 1, then turn right on Route 16 to continue eastbound. 

Motorists westbound on Route 16 will turn right to head north on Route 1.  Drivers continuing to westbound Route 16 will U-turn at the Route 1 crossover to head south on Route 1, then use the new ramp to Route 16. Route 1 motorists traveling north through the intersection will not be impacted. Route 1 southbound motorists can expect nighttime lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. The contractor continues work on Route 1 southbound pavement, embankment, bridge and two ramps.

DMV on the Go trailer heads to state fair

The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles’ DMV on the Go trailer will not will not return to its regular Sussex County schedule until Monday, Aug. 5.

DMV on the Go will be open from Thursday, July 18 to Saturday, July 27, at the Delaware State Fair in Harrington, right inside the main gate.

The ADA-accessible DMV on the Go trailer features four fully functional workstations and can perform all transactions as a traditional DMV except for inspections and road exams. Customers in need of uninsured motorist or in-person driver improvement assistance still need to visit the Wilmington, Delaware City, Dover or Georgetown DMV locations.  To access other DMV services, customers can complete more than 20 transactions online at mydmv.delaware.gov, including Delaware driver license, identification and vehicle registration renewals, duplicates and address changes.
