I just wish to remind those who may remember the days gone by when Mr. Mills used to tend the median greens near the City of Rehoboth entrance.
They may not have been as elaborate as the Lewes in Bloom entrance, but they were a far cry from what we have now.
A few days prior to our substantial rainfall, DelDOT got to driving the mowers and/or trash shredders. Where a few colorful dots of blue corn flowers once bloomed now lay pieces of plastic and various papers. Not attractive at all.
Then came the rains, washing the dry grass and trash to dam the storm drains, which in tern caused the left lane road along Route 1 to have lagoons to drive through.
DelDOT did have the foresight to plant flowers on the roundabout near Five Points. I know in the past DelDOT and Sussex Correctional Institution aligned to use inmates to pick up trash along the roads prior to mowing.
Granted, I don’t know what budget DelDOT has, but I would think it could save on carbon footprint and man hours if tolerant plantings were done, and we as a disposable society put our trash where it belongs.
