A vote for Macha is a vote for change

July 26, 2024

After three FOIA violations in five months, Rehoboth commissioners and Mayor Stan Mills have repeatedly proven their lack of respect for the community they serve. They hold secret meetings, disregard the mandates of the city charter, spend beyond budget and raise fees to cover their lack of financial responsibility. Their arrogance knows no bounds! They've even discussed ways to inspect residential basements to ensure proper use.

It's time for new city leadership, and voters would be wise to consider candidates who aren't part of the old guard. Nothing will change if the current commissioners are successful in getting their buddies elected. Two of this year's candidates enjoy election support from current and former commissioners, and they, along with a surreptitious group of self-proclaimed city leaders, have created a sort of unofficial political action committee to get like-minded candidates elected. They've been successful doing this for many years. In fact, there's only one current commissioner who managed to get elected without being endorsed by this insular group.

City residents who are fed up with the dysfunctional and unlawful shenanigans of current leadership should consider voting for Rachel Macha. Rachel doesn't have the support of the old guard, and she doesn't want it because she wants to effect change. I've known Rachel for nearly 20 years. She has a strong business background and will insist on financial responsibility. She will follow the city charter. She will prioritize preservation and cautious development. She will champion the effort to reclaim Deauville Beach. She will create a citizen advisory board to ensure commissioners understand resident concerns and priorities. She will bring strength of character, open mindedness, common sense and transparency to the board, and she will do this with a strong yet respectfully collaborative approach.

If Rehoboth residents and property owners want commissioners who will work with and for them, then they need to vote for independent candidates based on their merit instead of falling victim to the under-handed pseudo political action committee that's been controlling the city for too many years.
