Commencement speaker Cindy L. Szabo is a partner with the law firm Ellis & Szabo in Georgetown. She concentrates her practice in areas of estate planning, estate administration, real estate and general corporate law. In 2005 Szabo moved to Sussex County with her husband and law partner Brian Ellis who grew up in Lewes. Szabo is affiliated with Delaware Tech in several capacities she is a member of the Owens Campus Development Council and chairwoman of its Gift Planning Committee. She also serves as a special trustee to Delaware Tech Educational Foundation Board of Trustees and is a member of the advisory committee for the Owens campus paralegal program. Szabo said in her address, “What you have learned here at Delaware Tech is not only the confidence that it takes to succeed, but the knowledge that you set out to do this. You did it. And now you can do so much more.” BY STEVEN BILLUPS

Delaware Technical & Community College Owens Campus held its 44th Annual Commencement May 14 on the east lawn of the Carter Partnership Center. In the Owens Campus Class of 2012, 743 academic awards were conferred; the average age of the graduates is 30; 13 of the 60 summa cum laude graduates also obtained a 4.0 grade point average; 237 students will graduate with academic honor; 66 percent of the graduates are female; 20 percent are minorities; 94 percent are from Delaware; while 78 percent are from Sussex. The City of Seaford has the largest number of graduates and the health field represents 45 percent of the graduating class.

The commencement speaker was Cindy L. Szabo, Esq., and a partner in the law firm of Ellis & Szabo in Georgetown.
