Last weekend, the Phillies played well against the Cubs in the last two games of their series. They have continued their momentum against the Washington Nationals. Their bats have finally started to warm up. They are currently three games behind the Mets in the division.
This weekend they play the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are pretty good. One more positive development is that the bullpen seems to be doing a better job. Let’s hope this continues. Ranger Suarez is going to make his season debut in the rotation on Sunday. Let's hope he can stay healthy for the remainder of the season and boost the win count.
The Eagles did indeed focus on mostly defensive players in the rest of the draft this year. Their first five picks were defensive players. They did not end up drafting a tight end, which could be good news that they're still trying to keep Dallas Goedert on the team. He is very good when he is healthy. Hopefully he can play more than half of the games if he's on the roster this season.
Shedeur Sanders ultimately got drafted in the 5th round by the Cleveland Browns. He is going to be one very motivated football player, like Tom Brady was when he was drafted in the 6th round in the 1999 draft with the 199th pick! Brady memorized all the quarterbacks that were drafted before him and can still tell you if you ask. Shedeur is probably going to do something similar to prove everybody wrong. The draft pundits are probably going to try to work even harder next year to avoid being surprised like they were this year.
In local sports, I’d like to wish all of the Cape Henlopen high school spring sports teams good luck as they get ready for their state playoffs. Virtually all of the spring sports teams are having strong seasons. I was able to go see the boys lacrosse game against Wilmington Friends School. Cape beat them by a 15 to 2 score. Cape's offense is pretty darn good.
I’ve been surprised over the past few years how much the other Delaware schools, except for Salesianum, have really struggled to field competitive boys or girls lacrosse teams. It doesn’t help our teams to prepare very well for the state playoffs at the end the season when they beat everyone by 10-15 goals per game. Salesianum and Cape's boys teams have dominated the sport over the past 20 years. I also hope that the girls lacrosse team can continue their great record of winning State championships. Go Cape!
