Cape baseball jumps on Lake 5-1
Cape’s Trey Hitchcock jumped on a Lake Forest pitch in the first inning, blasting a long home run over the center-field fence and driving in Jase Mitchell to give the Vikings all they would need to down the Spartans 5-1 at Cape’s Chris Short Field.
“Brad Marks got the start and came out throwing well,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “He had command of his pitches and was hitting his spots. He finished with seven Ks over his five innings. Jacob [Smith] came in and did a fine job of keeping their bats quiet. Offensively, Trey Hitchcock continues to rake at the plate. He started us off in the first with a two-run blast to give us an early lead. We put up two more in the second to give us a solid lead and feel in control. Jase finished the scoring with a blast of his own to put us up five.”
Brady Kosc, Emmett Wheatly and Jaxon Clampitt all had doubles, and Clampitt finished the game with two hits and an RBI.
Brock Robbins was 3-for-3 and Colton Wyatt was 1-for-2 with a run scored to lead Lake Forest.
“We were happy with the performance and are preparing for a big week next week with three games,” said Evick.
