League of Women Voters to meet May 17

The Sussex County League of Women Voters announced Defending Democracy and Caring for Us will be the theme of its biennial general membership meeting set for 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 17, at Georgetown Public Library, 123 W Pine St., Georgetown.

Keynote speaker Jill Hicks, Sussex Preservation Coalition president and a member of the land-use working group recently organized by Sussex County Council, will share insights from her experience with grassroots organizing.

The agenda includes highlights of accomplishments during the past year, current committee activities and proposed programming for 2025-26, in addition to election of officers and directors, adoption of a two-year budget and proposed changes to the bylaws.

As a nonpartisan organization, the league welcomes anyone, regardless of gender or political affiliation, who is concerned about local and state issues to join in its mission to empower voters and defend democracy.
